Imperial Lighthouse

Hello!

It's been a while since I showed my face around here. It's been a crazy month--mainly occupied by getting my shit together after a nasty car crash (thanks, Papa John's pizza driver) that destroyed my baby :( (2008 Nissan Maxima) Rest in piece, Maxi.

Anyways, I've been assigned the interior of some lighthouse (I don't really know which one) but I'm completely rebuilding it from scratch. Here is my progress so far:

I'm using a relatively low-poly displacement texture to help bring some dimension to the rocky wall and pillars. I'd do it by hand with cuts but that would take hours, wouldn't be much less poly, and would look negligibly better if that. If this looks good now, imagine when it's gonna use some shaders and normal maps :P.

I have a 50k triangle limit, and so far I'm close to 40. Should be able to get this done under that limit, because these results are pretty nice and I'd hate for it to have to be scrapped. The floor boards are 3D too, achieved with cuts on each black line between the floor board--cheap, low poly, and effective. It's those kind of details that really make a difference IMO.

Looks really great!

Looks really great!

Is the stone rock texture in its final version? In case you can still change it, I would recommend taking out the plants that are growing on the rocks, since they would not receive enough sunlight to survive in the lighthouse interior.

Thanks bud!

I didn't make the texture, eloth and Ravanna did that. I might take that up with them. I could be using the wrong texture too... :S

Wall displacement works

Wall displacement works pretty well. I would recommend using the wood texture from the beams on the stairs (instead of the floorboard texture) if you intend to keep them that thick, however.

Okay here's the model, it's

Okay here's the model, it's an .obj with a specific smooth group. Everything should be good on it, should be good to go for vertex AO this time too.

eloth has reported to me that the .obj does not work. Here is an .fbx with the same smoothing information.
