Smash Doors

+--------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | +------------------------------------------------------+ | | | Adul's Door Smashing | | | | Plugin for Morrowind PC Role-Playing Game | | | +------------------------------------------------------+ | | | | | | -- Table of Contents -- | | | | 1. Description | | 2. Requirements | | 3. Installation | | 4. Rules | | 5. Known Issues | | 6. About | | | | | | +----------------+ | | | Description | | | +----------------+ | | | | Have you ever been wandering in front of a locked chest | | without the right tools to open it: "Why can't I just smash | | it with my hammer?!" Well, then this is your plugin. It | | adds a script to most of the Morrowind/Tribunal/Bloodmoon | | doors and containers (about 99%), which will allow you to | | smash them if they're locked. Don't fall back on anything | | visual, 'smashing' just means you remove the lock with your | | weapon. More information can be found in the Rules section. | | | | | | +----------------+ | | | Requirements | | | +----------------+ | | | | This plugin requires three things to work properly: | | | | - A PC on which Morrowind can run. | | - An installed version of Morrowind on the PC. | | - Eighter Tribunal (first expansion) OR Bloodmoon (second | | expansion) installed. They are important for the scripts | | to run correctly, so you must have at least one of them, | | though it's not a problem if you have both, eighter. | | | | NOTE: You CAN run the plugin without the expansion sets, | | though if you do (which I don't recommend), the | | scripts won't run properly, causing the game to be | | full of bugs. | | | | | | +----------------+ | | | Installation | | | +----------------+ | | | | To install this plugin, just extract the files in the | | "Morrowind\Data Files" directory, then start the launcher. | | Click 'Data Files', and in the checkbox-window on the left | | check the little box which has the 'Aduls_Door_Smashing.esp' | | attached to itself. If you have Tribunal, check the | | 'Aduls_DS_Tribunal.esp' as well. If you have Bloodmoon, also | | check the 'Aduls_DS_Bloodmoon.esp'. You're ready to play it! | | | | | | +----------------+ | | | Rules | | | +----------------+ | | | | The essence of this plugin is really simple. When you walk | | to a locked door or container and try to activate it (like | | if you'd want to open it), a message window will appear, | | asking you if you'd wanted to smash it. If you click yes, | | an amount of your fatigue (called Fatigue Cost) will be | | substracted from your fatigue. If you're still conscious | | after this, you've been successful. If your fatigue has gone | | below 0 (so you've fallen unconscious), you've failed. | | | | However, there are some conditions. You can only smash an | | object with a weapon (Hand-to-Hand is also a weapon), which | | can't be short blade or marksman weapon. These are just so | | useless in smashing that you'll beat it better if you use | | your own hand. If you have any of these in your hand, you | | can't smash, you'll receive an error message instead. As | | well, you can only smash something if your weapon is readied | | in your hand, else you'll face an error message again. | | | | After a smashing, not only your fatigue will be damaged, but | | it also damages your weapon. If you're unarmed, your own | | Health will be damaged. | | | | This plugin has some rather difficult rules as well. You | | don't need to know these, so just jump them over if you're | | not interested or if these are too difficult for you, though | | difficulty is relative. ;) | | | | Right then. The Fatigue Cost of a smashing is calculated | | from two things: the object's Hardness and the player's | | Power. The Hardness is a value that comes with the type of | | the door, while the Power is calculated from the player's | | attributes and skills. Here are the Hardness settings of | | doors: | | | | --Type-- --Hardness (Damage)-- --Examples-- | | Frail 15000 (10) Cavern and Shack Doors | | Average 25000 (20) Wooden Doors, Iron Grates | | Firm 35000 (30) Thin Stone and Metal Doors | | Strong 50000 (40) Stone and Thick Metal Doors | | Powerful 80000 (50) Daedric Doors | | | | And here are the Hardness settings of containers as well: | | | | --Type-- --Hardness (Damage)-- --Examples-- | | Frail 10000 (10) Barrels, Crates, Urns | | Average 20000 (20) Chests, Desks, Drawers | | Firm 30000 (30) Dwemer Metal Containers | | | | The Hardness of the type of the door is shown in the | | Hardness column. The numbers in the () behind the Hardness | | values are the Damage values, which applies to your weapon's | | condition (or your Health if you're using Hand-to-Hand) | | after the smashing. | | | | The Power is being calculated this way: | | First it checks what kind of weapon you're wielding. Then it | | multiplies your strength with the weapon's 'Strength | | Multiplier', which is a parameter of the weapon type. It | | also multiplies your skill with that weapon with the 'Skill | | Multiplier'. The sum of these products is the Power. Here | | is a table that shows the weapons' Strength and Skill | | Multipliers: | | | | --Weapon Type-- --Str Mult-- --Skl Mult-- --Sum Mult-- | | Hand-to-Hand ×1.5 + ×3 = ×4.5 | | One-Handed Axes ×4 + ×2 = ×6 | | Two-Handed Axes ×5.5 + ×1.5 = ×7 | | 1-Hnd Blunt Weapons ×4.5 + ×1.5 = ×6 | | Two-Handed Hammers ×7 + ×1 = ×8 | | Two-Handed Staves ×3 + ×2 = ×5 | | 1-Hnd Long Blades ×3 + ×2.5 = ×5.5 | | 2-Hnd Long Blades ×5 + ×1.5 = ×6.5 | | Spears ×2.5 + ×2.5 = ×5 | | | | The 'Sum Mult' column shows the sum of the weapon type's | | two multipliers, which just indicates the weapon type's | | effectiveness in smashing. | | | | All you need to do now is to divide the Hardness with your | | Power, and you'll get the Fatigue Cost. | | | | | | +----------------+ | | | Known Issues | | | +----------------+ | | | | Certainly, there ARE some problems with this plugin, as | | always: | | | | - However, this plugin makes Morrowind much more | | realistic, it also unbalances the game. There are many | | situations where a good-conditioned 1st level character | | can open a lock level 100 door, which he isn't supposed | | to. | | - The plugin will not add the script to doors and | | contaiers with a script already attached to them. This | | means you MIGHT encounter with some doors and containers | | which just can't be smashed, but they're very rare. | | - When you try to smash a door or container with a weapon | | which has it's condition full, the weapon won't be | | damaged. This isn't a script bug, but a spell effect bug | | that comes with Morrowind. | | - This plugin is very incompatible with other mods, as it | | modifies standard Morrowind/Tribunal/Bloodmoon objects | | (containers and doors). When another mod modifies the | | same object(s), it will cause problems. As well, door | | and container references added by other mods are | | unaffected by this one, so they won't be 'smashable'. |
