Has anyone actually tried to parse the morrowind.esm file for all the NPC information and use it to generate a skyrim compatable file?  This is not dwemer science we're talking here.  The file formats are well documented and straightforward.  Is there some obstable to this that I'm not aware of?  By my count there are 2675 NPCs defined in morrowind.esm.  I'm not sure doing this by hand is practical.

I think the main problem is getting it into a "Skyrim-compatible file". You'd need to have TES5Edit dump Skywind.esm, run a script to edit its dump to include the outfits from a list (or take the outfit records from the Morrowind master), then turn the file back into a master.

I was working on a script to get the NPC outfits in a list from the Morrowind.esm dump file, but I stopped when it seemed that others were working on it and I realized I didn't have time to finish it (busy end of semester).

I'm not entirely sure what is being done here. I think zilav who is one of the authors of TESEdit might be looking at importing them, but not sure. I've look at a bunch of the Morrowind editors and although you can dump the contents of NPC clothing, it came in an awkward format, but maybe somebody has resolved that.

Doesn't work like that, you can just insert directly into the master, no need to "extract" information and put it back. Once we have a readable Morrowind NPC clothing item file, inserting it into Skywind should be easy (he says not actually doing it :-P )

There's a lot of data in morrowind.esm that has not made it into skywind.esm beyond clothing.  NPC have the wrong voices and behaviors as well and perhaps stats and skills as well.  All that is specified in the esm files.

Really, these files should be parsed into a database where the data can be manipulated easily then a new file can be generated from the database.  Trying to do this by editing flat files is hairball. 

I might take a look at this to see if the database approach is practical.  I need to refresh some skills I haven't used recently and this might be a simple project to work on.

Are there any programmers involved in this effort?

Wrong voices? They are not done yet.

Behaviour? AI packages are not done yet.

Stats, skills and spells are the last thing to transfer (because they don't affect development) and will take 30 minutes top.

Clothing is missing because some clothes and items are absent in Morroblivion due to a Oblivion's engine limitations, they must be added to Skywind by hand now, no way to convert them. As soon as it is done, transferring npc inventories will take 20 minutes.

I don't see any point in any kind of database, Morrowind's data can be dumped with existing tools to an easily parseable text files. And besides npcs, what else to transfer? Everything is already in Skywind.
