[WIP] Interior Tombs Redux

I have taken upon myself the task of fixing the lighting in the ancestral tombs and adding clutter. Feel free to give me constructive criticism to help me make these look the best that they can.

This thread will be updated each time I have new things to show you guys!

Here are some images from Andalen Ancestral Tomb:

Looking awesome! I love the heavy orange tone of the lighting!

Have you tried setting the ambient light of the tombs to a blue-ish hue? it would give a very nice contrast and portray the idea of the tombs being cold and lifeless. It would then have a very nice contrast with the orange lights.

Also, can you replace some of the lit torches with burned out ones? Maybe you already have, I don't see it from the screenshots.

Looking good, this really needs to be done, there are a lot of effects to use in skyrim (sun rays, flying dust, water drops, ambiant sounds...)

This looks really great, glad to see it.

I personally love cluttering and lighting places in the Elder Scrolls construction kits, don't know why more people aren't into it.... Think my sister's interior decorating rubbed off on me >_>

I plan to get back into it soon, my last experience with this sort of thing was in Oblivion.

I tweeted out the link to this thread too (:

good work! Can you move Andrano Ancestral Tomb up on your TODO list. The PC visits it for the 3rd quest of the main storyline (and this quest is already done) ;)

Alen Ancestral Tomb completed

I finished Alen Ancestral Tomb. This was made lighter due to the fact that it has inhabitants (vampires). If you think it is too light please tell me. Moving on to Andrano next

Are you using a realistic

Are you using a realistic lighting approach (i.e., lights have sources, sources have lights)? I think the tombs more than other places would be improved by having only light from realistic sources where possible to add to the dark atmosphere of them.

Seems a bit too red, in Morrowind they are mostly yellow tinted. Perhaps create a separate imagespaces for every tomb, or at least some of them?

If what you mean is 'Do I

If what you mean is 'Do I only have lights where there are torches', then yes. There are no lights that don't have some sort of source. Hope that helped :)

And now that I look at it, they do seem a bit too red, I'll change the imagespace when I next update it.

I started on Andrano... I still want to work a little bit on the fog to make it more eerie :)

I made the lighting slighty "yellower". Eloth also gave me some new textures to use, and although the UV needs to be corrected, they look better :)

finally, an update!

I did more on Andrano, and although the clutter and effects aren't completely finished, I decided you give you a couple screens! Please feel free to suggest what to add for clutter, as I am sort of stuck :P

I think you forgot to move

I think you forgot to move the light source out of the wall on 4th screenshot because it looks very different compared to 1st image.

Great work as usual!

Possible clutter suggestions

Possible clutter suggestions might include things like old spider webs in the corners and maybe piles of ash?

Definitely these. And you should just check Raven Rock's ancestral tombs in Dragonborn for more ideas for clutter, I guess.

This is awesome. The very last image before my post looks like it would be great with a shadowcaster. I'm using a similarly-dark imagespace for the mine I'm working on and just realized something: Will there be a 'standard' ENB for Skywind?

If you can do all development

If you can do all development of Skywind without using an ENB, that will ensure consistency and effectiveness without using enhancers.

Maybe somebody will do an "official" enb, but certainly this will be the last thing that we do. Better to get the lightning right first for vanilla users, then apply some sort of filters later.

hey fargoth you probably

hey fargoth you probably already fixed this but just in case, the shadowcaster on the left wall is leaving a seam in the shadow of the urn, you know how to fix that right? also the striping is really bad on that pillar in the middle, is it the depth bias setting? did you have trouble trying to fix it because i was having trouble with that same thing a week ago.  lookin forward to walking around in some of these tombs

If you'd be willing to pass

If you'd be willing to pass these off I could finish navmeshing and cluttering all remaining tombs over the next week.  Also I agree the bump maps are too severe.  The walls and pillars look like salt blocks attacked by acid rain.  Stonework here isnt exposed to the elements so it should be in a state pretty close to what was first constructed.  Making pockmarks over everything changes the apparent quality, not the age of the surfaces.
