[WIP] The Fists of Randagulf

I've been working on a model for the Fists of Randagulf, and I think I'm done with the low poly. I have it UV mapped and made a little placeholder texture. I know it looks like a He-man toy right now, but I was planning on covering the whole thing with engravings and nord style decoration. I just wanted to see what people thought of the general shape.

The lore from the Imperial Library is as follows:

"Randagulf of Clan Begalin goes down in Tamrielic history as one of the mightiest warriors from Skyrim. He was known for his courage and ferocity in battle and was a factor in many battles. He finally met his fate when King Harald conquered Skyrim. King Harald respected this great hero and took Randagulf's gauntlets for his own. After King Harald died, the gauntlets disappeared. The King claimed that the Fists granted the bearer added strength."

I was thinking about maybe doing black leather instead of brown. Also, I figured people might not like the thumb with the extension, but I wanted to make them look more interesting and unique, as they are a very powerful artifact.

Feedback and criticism would be appreciated.

Maybe have it a bit squared

Maybe have it a bit squared off at the top knuckle to match the thumb a bit?  From the top of the hand toward the fingers, not up from the fingers.  Also, what's with the extra knot on the sides?

I'm not sure I'm picking up

I'm not sure I'm picking up what you're putting down with the knots comment, so I added a sketchfab link.

Ah, I guess it's an elbow pad

Ah, I guess it's an elbow pad.  The gauntlets looked shorter in that fist picture, and I thought it just started to cover the forearm.  Even then, I'm not sure the elbow pads are a great idea.  They would prevent you from twisting your wrist around, which is needed to hold a sword.

Dang, that's the only major

Dang, that's the only major feature that is close to the original Morrowind model. They are actually pretty comparable in the way of obstruction as the elbow spikes on the Skyrim daedric gauntlets. I imported that model for reference when I made this.

Looking at the original in

Looking at the original in Morrowind, you can definitely see that the material of the armor is some kind of silver or possibly nordic armor. The colors that you use are far too saturated as it stands and there is definitely some detail missing around the bracers. Considering the history of those gloves it would be appropriate to give them a little more worn appearance and perhaps even a little nordic ornaments on the trim. Keep at it, mr. modeler!

I started playing around with

I started playing around with the details on the gauntlet. I added a few of the Ancient Nord Armor swirls and added detail to some of the gold. I also got staff picked on sketchfab, and since I added Skywind to the name, that's free publicity for us! Check it out, and let me know what you think.

I think that your model need
I think that your model need a high poly version to bake a good normal map! otherwise you can still create a normal map from a psd file in crazybump or ndo2. In general I prefer to start with the hig poly...you can achieve awesome results in this way! For now i like the design but everything looks too flat.

Okay, I got rid of all the

Okay, I got rid of all the little swirlies and added Ancient Nordic style detail, I'm about 90% done with the high poly scuplt and 5% percent done with the poly paint. It will be much less saturated after the bake, but I'm old so bright colors help me see what I'm doing.

The gesture is the result of not wanting to scuplt all the fingers seperately, and a greeting fo tha haters.

Okay. All done. If you want to see it without the spec, go here:

Or just wait. I finished the morph targets, so I should have it in game soonish.

As soon as I get it in-game

As soon as I get it in-game and have the spec doing it's thing, I'll happily tweak the gold in the diffuse if needed. I personally would have liked to make the decorations ebony, but that's a design choice and not very lore friendly. Don't worry, I won't let us end up with a butter gold artifact.

I must say I favor the dimmed

I must say I favor the dimmed gold trim proposed by Iniquity. However, unlike most people I do enjoy looking at both the thumb and elbow guards, as it gives it that "powerful artifact" flare.

I'm guessing since no one has mentioned it, that we can all agree the new weathering and other textures are of superb quality. Still, unlike the others I will mention them. If only to congratulate you on your beautiful work. So.... good job! Keep it up.

Move this back to unclaimed.

Move this back to unclaimed. This model will be released in an upcoming independent mod released long before Skywind.

I use morrowloot in my build

I use morrowloot in my build of skyrim and it has the fists. They're horrible looking so I borrowed some gauntlets from another mod and retextured them to look like the fists. It's not great, and it's not our assets, but if you guys want to use them as a base I can upload them.
