This thread is devoted to posts pertaining to Balmora/Hlaalu assets (clutter, buildings, and other details), both 2D and 3D. Some refrences are included, and I will see what I can do in contributing to this when I get to a computer that has photoshop on it.
Wall Clutter and graffiti art direction

Wall posters, graffiti, and other details will be helpful to add essential detail to otherwise plain walls. Things like adverts for local businesses and guilds/factions, Anti-Imperial posters and graffiti, and older, faded posts can help add to the immersion and help make the city feel lived in. Balmora is one of the older cities, and could benefit from having older, fading fragments to serve as evidence of age, like so:

Terracotta piping would be used to channel water off of the relatively flat Hlaalu roofs, especially with the somewhat common rain in the area. This picture by Lelek is a good example:

If I may suggest?
These colorful cloth (overhangs? Not sure of the name) would be perfect to add color. Add them to any roof and presto!
Yeah, definitely! Colorful overhangs would be great for market stalls, too. I have ideas for the market, including pack guar carts.
here is the 1st building for a test tomorrow.

Talked to iceflame, he wanted drains to take the run off water from flat balcony, so i added a drain on floors. other areas can have overhangs.
Ravanna, awesome work! Sweeeeeet!
Really good idea on making the foundations of the building below the door. With the direction Iceflame is going for (building Balmora on multiple levels and elevation) this will allow him to place assets more freely, and allow him to make tall alleyways like in the concept art. Love it!
Hey, usual lurker here. I'm on this site almost every day checking what has been done, and that without even owning Skyrim or a computer that can run it. Absolutely loving all the work that is being done here, beautiful. I used to play Morrowind, and loved the wolrd and athmosphere more than any game or film I have ever seen. This is like a dream come true! Anyway, I have tried to not make too many suggestions here, but I really think there could be a better solution for draining the balcony. The drain looks out of place and sort of makes me think about showers and badly built tourist apartments. It's also really impractical to build and maintain, and collects dirt easily(not that that really applies for the game, but still). A better solution would be to have some holes around the outside of the balcony to drain off the water, maybe with the underside sticking out a little to keep the water from running down the wall. With a nice spacing, they could also add to the looks of the building instead of detracting from it. I could draw a picture if it's badly explained.
i think you're right, this 1st one was a final test for textures/methods but not necessarily design details.
i think i see what u have in mind, that would work well with the horizontal guttering seen in the concepts, i will try this for the rest of the outdoors balconies, thanks lurker :p
Feel free to comment more often.
Does that go for aaaall of us... ;)
Im wondering if the guard tower should have something to shield guards from the rain, and maybe a fire pit...

yeah we're gonna use cloth coverings and Awnings on balmora, will cover from rain. Fire pit could be placed in the open tower.,
hm.. ashes, disease, realistical buildings, shacks and dens.
i hope Balmora would have some pre-apocaliptical flavor.
Did someone say Balmora Rain?
Anyway, cloth overhangs will be great, I want to set up that market soon.
There will be a lot of redware and other things on display, market food, and a lot of colorful overhangs, with pack guars and their carts. I want to perhaps add a bard who would occasionally play outside of a building to attract customers, and things like that to make it feel alive.
I like how in the first picture it looks like a corridor. That picture would be the best direction.
Yeah, that drain looks off, way too modern. And looking at its placement it would drain the water inside the house :P Little holes on the sides, perhaps continued outward as pipes work great. Hell, bigger and richer houses could even have decorative pipes, like in gothic architecture, of course Dunmerized.

I do have to agree. The drain does look quite modern. Though I would just put holes at the bottom of the balconies sauled railing instead of going to fancy because I don't think they would go fancy with these buildings. the holes could even be tri shaped for less poly's. Sorta like the holes on this balcony.
I did say only biggest and most rich buildings, and if anyone is to go fancy it would be Hlaalu ;) Most of the town would only have the holes ofc. The walls near the holes could also have a slight green overlay algae texture, to indicate that water runs there on a regular basis.
